The Crinoid

A lot of people have been asking us what the beautiful “red flowery-looking” thing is above the Seahorse in our last post, so we decided to dedicate a post about it. This red flowery thing is actually an animal. It is called a Crinoid Feather Star, and is classified as an Echinoderm, which is the Phylum that consists of Starfish, Sea Urchins, Sand Dollars, and Sea Cucumbers. Crinoids are rare finds and very hard to keep in captivity. This particular red Feather Star lives with seahorses and shrimp, and is one of the main attractions in our client’s aquarium. Please see the video of this amazing creature feeding in our client’s aquarium on our Facebook page. As you will see, this Crinoid’s beautiful color and shape, along with its mesmerizing movement, provides tranquility in a saltwater aquarium.
